At CPHI China, Schreiner MediPharm to Showcase Solutions Addressing Novel APIs and Sustainability

Solutions include a reliable labeling solution for syringes stored at ultra-low temperatures, closure seals with recycled content, and a needlestick prevention solution with eco-friendly elements.

Schreiner MediPharm, a Germany-based global provider of innovative functional label solutions for the healthcare industry, will showcase a variety of recent additions to its extensive product portfolio at CPHI China, June 19-21 in Shanghai. At Booth #N5D32, the company will place particular emphasis on the exacting demands of novel active pharma ingredients (APIs), innovations that bolster sustainability, and solutions tailored to the specific requirements of the Chinese market.

For example, Schreiner MediPharm will highlight its Freeze-Light-Protect syringe label, a specialty label for mRNA applications as well as cell and gene therapies. Such novel APIs must be transported and stored at ultra-low temperatures as cold as -100 °C, and often require special light protection. Freeze-Light-Protect reliably adheres to the syringe even at extremely low temperatures, and can be equipped with various UV and light protection levels to ensure customized adaptation to the respective API.

From a sustainability standpoint, Schreiner MediPharm’s recently introduced sustainable closure seals combine two elements essential in the pharmaceutical industry: supply chain security and eco-friendliness. The sealing solutions are perfectly adapted to the specific threat scenarios and respective secondary packaging. The film material can comprise up to 90 percent recycled content, enabling emission reductions of up to 35 percent. The result is a reduced overall product carbon footprint (PCF) without sacrificing performance metrics such as transparency, printability, and reliability.

Needle-Trap, Schreiner MediPharm’s unique label with an integrated needle catcher, also exhibits sustainability elements. On the one hand, the plastic trap that secures the needle can consist of up to 50 percent re-granulated material. On the other hand, its special design helps Needle-Trap achieve its high level of environmental friendliness. The compact label construction requires significantly less plastics than conventional needle protection systems, and takes up far less space during transportation and storage. Moreover, a new feature enables easy integration of a first-opening indication that eliminates the need for pharmaceutical manufacturers to use blister packs.
