RaySearch Laboratories has launched a new version of its RayStation treatment planning system for clinical use in the European Union, the US, Japan and Australia.

The new RayStation 3.5 version includes a wide range of new features and improvements, including radiation therapy with electrons and protons, along with a Proton Beam Design module.

Proton Beam Design module contains tools for treatment planning of double scattered and uniformly scanned protons, such as a clinically approved Pencil Beam dose engine and automatic generation of treat-and-protect beams.

The proton planning functionality in RayStation, will be followed by many other features, such as Pencil Beam Scanning techniques and Monte Carlo dose calculations.

The new version also comprises Electron Beam Design, which includes a Monte Carlo dose engine for electron radiation therapy and tools for manual editing of beams similar to its earlier 3D-CRT module.

RayStation 3.5 also has new features to the existing IMRT and VMAT modules, which offer the possibility to perform all IMRT and VMAT delivery modes available with all relevant machines from the hardware suppliers.

The new version also offers a broad range of new tools, which includes introduction of Plan Generation Protocols, that help for a better planning workflow and automating tedious treatment planning tasks.

RaySearch CEO Johan Löf said the firms new software version offers support for all treatment modalities and support all IMRT and VMAT delivery modes with all relevant treatment machines.

“RayStation® had already set the standard in terms of usability and with the introduction of Plan Generation Protocols and Fallback Planning we further extend our lead. RayStation® takes a big leap forward to eliminate all unnecessary tedious manual steps and lets the user focus all energy on reviewing, improving and adapting the treatment plans, which are the tasks where the clinical experience matters the most,” Löf added.
