China Packaging Power – Chinese CEO Salon and swop Global Presentation Made Great Impression at interpack 2017 

interpack 2017, the Olympics of the global processing and packaging industry, is well under way in the beautiful city of Düsseldorf on the Rhine. Shanghai World of Packaging (swop), as a member of interpack alliance, used this great opportunity to present itself to more than 200,000 professionals and business men from all over the world.  

The Chinese packaging market ranked 2nd with around 117 billion USD in sales and will be expected to overtake the USA as number 1 in the near future. 269 Chinese companies including Hualian, Zhongya, Yongsun, Newmstar, Changsu have exhibited innovative products during interpack 2017. The show was a perfect time to show China’s packaging power on the world stage. Chinese enterprises hope to do business in more advanced markets – Europe and not only China and the Asia region. However how to enter this market is a question in need of consideration.

The salon was held in the form of Q&A, all the attendees were interested in the previous position of Mr. Friedbert Klefenz as CEO of Bosch Packaging Technology for 15 years, especially how to make innovations on products and what kind of problems they faced when Bocsh first entered the Chinese market.    

In the afternoon of May 8th, the swop global presentation made a grand impression at interpack in Düsseldorf. More than 30 professionals and opinion leaders of media, associations and companies from all over the world has attended the presentation.  

Mr. Bernd Jablonowski, Global Portfolio Director at Messe Düsseldorf for the Processing & Packaging sector gave a welcome speech to all the attendees on behalf of interpack and interpack alliance, and expressed recognition and support for swop. Mr. Stanley Chu, Chairman of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd. shared insights on the current packaging industry situation in China and how it will develop in the coming 5 years. “China is the second-largest packaging market in the world and had more than 250,000 packaging enterprises in 2015 with total turnover of USD 103.59 billion. In terms of the end-user industries, China’s food processing industry is a developed and growing market, and the manufacture of foods made totaled USD 2.24 billion. At the same time, China is the world’s largest e-commerce market. In 2016, the number of e-commerce users was 530 million and the total revenue amounts to USD 376,175 million.”Mr. Chu said, “13th Five Year Plan’and ‘Made in China 2025’ are putting higher demands on the equipment manufacturing industry. As for the packaging industry, the objectives will be green packaging materials, smart packaging machinery and high-end packaging products. It is expected that the revenue of Chinese packaging industry will reach at USD 362.16 billion by 2020. Only through innovation could help all Chinese manufacturers to expand their business worldwide at an international advanced level.

Currently, the number of companies confirmed to exhibit at swop 2017 rose by 50% compared to the last show. 1,000 more exhibitors will be expected to exhibit their latest products, technology and services with 60,000 square meters. Since the launch of visitor pre-registration, many established FMCG enterprises have registered for swop 2017, including Yum, Pepsi, Bright Dairy, Abbott, Unilever, COTY, Johnsons and Nivea. More than 30,000 visitors of the packaging, purchasing, engineering and other decision-making departments from food, beverage, confectionery, bakery, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, non-food, industrial commodities industry are expected to visit. 

SAVE FOOD debuts in China during swop 2017 with a featured area and forum to share information with the public, especially the suppliers of solid foods, liquid foods, fresh foods and agricultural products. The problems of food waste, extending the shelf life of food and preventing spoilage and damage during transportation will also be addressed. It has attracted many socially responsible suppliers with innovative skills in the packaging industry who are enthusiastic to attend, including MULTIVAC, Xiamen Changsu, Berry Plastics, Danbell Equipment, Beijing Lantsai. Futhermore, a high-level forum will be held on Nov 8th with talks on how to prevent food loss and waste through innovative packaging technology. Changsu, the first Chinese member of SAVE FOOD, now confirmed to be ambassador of SAVE FOOD in China and will highlight the topic of film packaging. MULTIVAC, Danbel, Lantsai and Berry will focus on the topics of vacuum packaging, detecting technology, traceable and detective smart tag, materials technology respectively. 

The other two new featured areas“innovationparc”and“components” will focus on Industry 4.0 and machine parts, components, accessories etc. With the support of Packaging Family, this year’s “FMCG Future Zone” will be three times as large with a more distinctive theme. It is expected to attract more than 600 well-known manufacturers of various packaging materials and products. 

At the same time, 10 more high-end forums will be held to gather opinion leaders from the processing and packaging industry to discuss trends of the future.
